I've been having a hard time getting myself to write because I tend to be a perfectionist when it comes to writing. My blog posts have hardly been my best writing, but I usually want them to be at least good. That makes writing much more daunting in that mindset.

SO.

I'm just going to be quick and efficient! I'll write for 20ish minutes and then post whatever I have!

So here goes!

Hellooooooooooooo everyone!

Alaska is FANTASTIC. We are loving it so much! I have never been happier than I am right here in this beautiful place with my sweet husband.

Work has been going well for both of us! I had an exhausting time with Miss K and Little Man this last week. Not only was it rainy, but I'm pretty sure Miss K was colicky. Yikes. I was very overwhelmed at times.

Despite that daunting week, I feel like I am really getting the hang of things. My first week with Little Man, which was about a month ago, it seemed he was just testing my boundaries. He spent a lot of time in his "listening chair". Now that he's figured out that I truly am an authority figure that he can't mess with, he is much happier and we've been getting along even better!

Little Man and I at the Zoo! They have a family pass and I take
him there every week or so

Cutie. @ Potter's Marsh

He is a remarkably smart and charming not quite 2-year-old. Most kids his age are supposed to be putting together 2 word sentences (learned that in communication disorders last semester!). Little Man, however, strings 4 words sentences and talks about plenty of decontextualized things, such as a birthday party from 3 months ago or what he saw at the zoo yesterday. He's fascinated with trucks and airplanes. He knows all of the words for construction equipment but struggles to grasp colors. He's just not interested.

Miss K is just an adorable little piece of work. Like I said, I'm pretty sure she's colicky, so even when she should be perfectly content she will occasionally break out screaming. I have worked really hard with her, though, so I'm proud of my progress. I have successfully learned many of the nuances of bottle feeding, burping, swaddling, and helping put her down for naps. It's tricky; really tricky.

Getting a good picture of a baby in a swinging chair is hard.

And I'm still not sure how I feel when I'm out and about and people smile at me sweetly because of the two kids I'm toting.
Hello.
People are often shocked to hear that I'm married; what does it look like when I'm herding two children?!
Ah well.
At least they open doors for me and say nice things because I'm a "mommy".

Aaron's still working at his roofing job. Since it rained off and on last week, they couldn't work on the roof. So he spent a few days at home just bored out of his mind before we figured out that he could come and hang out with me at my work instead. Little Man loved having Aaron around that day and I think Aaron just adored him, too. Aaron's sprained ankle has been healed nicely for a while now; he's been slowly getting up his mileage. I've been running with him in the evenings. Nothing big; just 3 miles, but it's tons of fun for the both of us!

Other things...

It had become apparent that I didn't have any truly suitable rain gear. So, I faced yet another Alaskan initiation...

I wear this better than her.

I got a North Face jacket!!

...this exact North Face "Resolve" jacket in these colors, actually. Everyone wears North Face here; it really is the style. People go to Sports Authority not just for their sporting gear but also for their outfits! Weird, huh? Either way, I looooove my new jacket. It makes me look distinctly Alaskan, something that Aaron finds very cute. Now all I need are some Xtra Tufs and my Alaskan image will be complete. Xtra Tufs are so incredibly, ridiculously Alaskan I don't even know how to even broach the subject.

Also, Aaron and I got our calling in our new ward - we're teaching the 6 and 7 year olds. We're back in Primary.

Anywho, I'm tired of writing for now - I don't even want to spell check it. See you all later!

~Karen
